Race anyone, anywhere

Want to race with everyone at the Table on a competition? Flowtimer is the best way to do so. Create a Room and Share the QR Code with everyone!

Racers do not need an account. They type a name and go.

Race
A live Flowtimer race: the shared four-letter code, the current scramble, and a scorecard with every racer's times, round wins and rolling average

How it works

Easy Setup

No sign-ups, no downloads, no faff. Read the code out, send the link, or hold up the QR code and let people scan it.

01

Create the race

Pick your puzzle and whether it is scored on Mo3, Ao5 or Ao12. You get a four-letter code and a join link straight away.

02

Share the code

Read the letters out, send the link, or show the QR code. Racers type a name and they are in.

03

Race

Everyone gets the same scrambles in the same order. Standings update as solves land, and you race until the host calls it.

Scoring

Scored properly, so luck does not win

Racing on a single time is a coin flip. Flowtimer scores on a rolling Mo3, Ao5 or Ao12, so the fastest cuber wins rather than the luckiest one.

  • Round wins are tracked too. Every scramble is a round, and the fastest time takes the crown.
  • +2 and DNF work like a real comp. Race solves can be penalised but never deleted, so nobody can cheat.
  • The host ends the race, freezing the standings for everyone at once.

During the race

Watch the race unfold live

See who is mid-solve, who is on which scramble and who is holding the lead. Your own screen stays a clean full-screen timer, so nothing distracts you when it counts.

  • Still your timer. Same fonts, same hotkeys, same settings you already have.
  • A full scorecard with everyone's times, whenever you want the detail.
  • Every race is saved, so the argument about who won in March is settled.

Good for

Where racing really shines

Competitions

This is what it was built for. Hours of waiting, a table full of cubers, and one code turns all of it into a race.

Calls with friends

Distance makes no difference at all. Drop the join link in the chat and race whoever is around.

FAQ

Racing questions

Do my friends need an account to race?

No. Anyone with the code or the link picks a name and races as a guest. An account only matters if you want the race saved to your history.

Does everyone get the same scrambles?

Yes. Scrambles are generated once and handed to every racer in the same order, so the race is always fair. More get added as you go.

How is a race scored?

On a rolling average the host picks when creating it: mean of 3, average of 5 or average of 12. Round wins are tracked alongside, where the fastest time on each scramble takes the round.

Can I race someone in another country?

Yes. It all runs live through the server, so distance changes nothing. The only advantage to being in the same room is the shouting.

What about +2 and DNF?

They work exactly like a competition. Race solves can be penalised but never deleted, so nobody can quietly bin a bad one.

How many people can join one race?

As many as you can talk into it. There is no hard limit, the standings just get long. If you find the number where it breaks, tell us on Discord.

Do race solves go into my normal statistics?

No, they stay with the race, so a competitive session never skews your practice averages.
